Funding, grants and other supports
Finance towards training in Journalism, paid work placement and mentoring through the Irish Times.
The Mary Maher Bursary, in memory of former Irish Times journalist and social justice campaigner Mary Maher, will help students from backgrounds under-represented in the media and who face challenges in achieving a degree in journalism to pursue a career as a journalist.
The bursary will include a contribution from The Irish Times towards student charges, financial assistance towards accommodation/living expenses, mentoring from an experienced Irish Times journalist and a practical, paid work placement across Irish Times Group titles during college holidays. The bursary is open to students living in Ireland who are considering applying to third-level degree courses in journalism for the 2022/23 academic year.
The Irish Times is keen to engage with all sectors of Irish society and improve its representation of diverse audiences. In support of this, we particularly encourage applications from students with diverse social and/or ethnic backgrounds who aspire to become journalists.
The closing date for applications is May 31st, 2022.
